1. Explain why Kevin "Freak" gives Max the empty book. What was the "real" purpose of the empty book?
2. With whom is Max angry with when he realizes Freak is dead? Why? What helps him get over his anger?
3. Explain the quote from Loretta Lynn on p. 160, when she says, "Nothing is a drag, kid. Think about it."
4. Now that the book is finished...what are your thoughts about it? Did you like or dislike the book? Why or why not?

ReplyDelete1. The real purpose of the empty book is that Kevin wants Max to fill it with all their adventures.
2. Who Max is really angry at is the doctor becuase he thought they were doing the bionic unit and they failed. What helps him get over his anger is filling the empty book Freak gave him
3. The quote from Loretta Lee means don't just stay home and do nothing to something with your life. And that is when he got inspired to write the book.
4. I liked the book becuase it shows that some kids can be weird on the inside but a good friend on the inside.

ReplyDelete1) Freak gives Max an empty book. Freak says the book is for Max to write down the quests they had to remember them. The real reason he gives Max the book is to remember FREAK because Freak knew he was going to die soon. (Also possibly to give Max the courage to write something and feel he has a brain.)
2) Max is mad at Dr. Spivak when he finds out that Freak is dead. He is because Max said,” He believed you. You said you could give him a new body and he believed you.” In my opinion, Max is mad at her because he felt they didn’t give Freak a new body in time. Then he realizes the whole thing is made up and is even more mad at her when Max found out the doctor lied to Freak when he was seven about the body. What helped Max get over his depression were what Loretta said and the pyramid box with the books that Freak made him. It helped him because they were specially hand made. Also he realized everyone else is happy again-even Gwen who has a boyfriend.
3) On page 160 Loretta Lee said,” Nothing is a drag, kid. Think about it.” That quote means really to think about all the good things in life he has, like the house he lives in, enough food, loving guardians, an education, and more. There are many kids without those things. Be happy for what you do have and not sad about the things you don’t. The world will keep spinning.
4) Now that I finished the book, I learned to appreciate the things I have. I felt like it was a necessary book to read because it taught us about friendship and reality. I liked the book because the characters had big personalities and imaginations. I also liked that it had mystery included in the story.

ReplyDelete1.Freak gives Max the empty book because so Max can remeber there good times and never forget Freak.
2.Max was angrey at Doctor Spivak because Max thought she just lied to Freak that he was going to get the bionic improvment. The way Max gets over his anger is by not really talking and staying in "The Down Under."
3.Loretta was tell Max that he has to live life and don't wast the time you have on the earth or your just herting yourself.
4.I loved the book it was full of sespence and you never wanted to put the book down and wanted to keep reading. I also liked how Rodman Philbrick used Max to tell the story.[first person narrotive]

ReplyDelete1. Freak gives Max the empty book so he can write all their stories down and share them with other people. The real purpose of the empty book is that freak knows he will die, and he wants everyone to know about the fantastic adventures freak had with Max.
2. Max is angry with Dr. Spivak when he realizes Freak is dead. This is because he belived that the docters could operate him and get him out of the hospatal and not let him die. He thought that they were giving him a new body and faild the task that is why he died. That is just what Freak made up so he wouldn't think he would die at such a young age. In my opinion what helps him get get over Freaks death is writing about all the adventures Freak and Max had. I think this helped him remember all about the things Freak and Max did together and that made him cheer up a bit.
3. The quote from Loretta really means that nothing can really bring you down forever, you have to get over it and do ither things in your life. Like Gwen she is know living in californa and has a new boyfried, she got over it and moved on. That doesn't mean that you should forget Freak though you always keep him in your heart. Max thinks about that quote and he realizes that he really should write the book and he moves on, but Freak will always be in his heart.
4. In my opinion the book was one of y favorite books i have ever read. I really liked how in some parts of the book were written in 2nd person narrative, also the detals were outstanding. I could really picture the dad even though the book didn't show a picture of him. I liked the book besides the end i really wished that Rodman didn't have Freak die, i dont really like stories when things like that happen. Other than the end though i enjoyed the book a lot, i will definitely suggest it to my friends that haven't read it yet.

ReplyDelete1. Freak gives Max the empty book so that he dose not stay it his room and do nothing all day.
2. I think that Max is mad at him self because he didn't know that Freak was going to die. The book that Freak gave to Max helps Max get over his anger .
3. when Loretta says that nothing is a drag kid think about I thought that it ment that you have to live your life to the fullest.
4. the book was a very good book because of the suspece that the author used

ReplyDelete#1) Freak gives Max the empty book so Max can record all there adventures they had together another part to that is that Freak believes that Max can write and that book proves it.
#2) When Freak dies max is upset with Dr. Spivak because he thinks that it is her fault that Freak wasn't able to live but later Dr. Spivak talks to Max and that helped him a little bit.
#3) It means to not do nothing just because your depressed. You have to live life to the best that you can live it at and not let anyone stop you.
#4) In my opinion this was a very good book I liked it more towards the end because there were more conflicts and just more exciting . I thought it was very upsetting when Freak passed away.

ReplyDelete1. The real reason that Kevin gave max the book because he wanted Max to remember all the adventures that they had together. For example how they went to the hospital on the way they pretended that these big houses were the castle and the pools were the moats.
2. In my opinion I think Max is angry at himself because he notices that Kevin was my best friend and now he is dead and at least I had a friend but now he is gone and I will become maybe dumb again.
3. In my opinion I think what Loretta Lynn on page 160, meant that you should appreciate what you have and enjoy your life, have fun, and basically have a great time and do not think about the sad things in life think positive.
4. In my opinion, I really liked the book. I thought it had a lot of detail and I like how the author made it emotional and interesting. I thought it was a really good read and you should read to your classes every year. Also it had many different characteristics. For example it was scary, adventurous, mysterious, and much more.

ReplyDelete1.In my opinion Freak gives Max the empty book because he wants Max to keep a memory of him and make him become a bit more educated. Also Freak wants him to remember all the adventurous times they had together. The other reason was because “ he wanted him to write down all the adventures they had.”
2. Max is angry with Dr. Spivak because he thinks that she didn’t do the operation correctly like she really didn’t give Freak a robotic body. The thing that made him feel better was that Dr. Spivak said that she didn’t know what he was talking about and she said that his heart got too big for his body.
3. Loretta Lee’s quote at the end of the book means that even though your friend is dead doesn’t mean you throw the rest of your life away. Live your life to the fullest and seize the day. 4. Now that we finished the book the book is sad because Freak dies and he has all these segures. Also it was happy because Freak brought joy to all of the people he was friends with. I liked this book because there was action, friendship, suspense, humor and great morals.

ReplyDelete1.In my opinon the “real” purpose of the empty book is that Kevin knows he is going to die so he wants Max to do not depres him self and stop doing the things that Kevin teached him like reading and writting. So he gives him something fun to write about, wich is all there “quests” adventures that they had in the empty book.
2.When Max figures out that Kevin is dead he is really mad at the doctor “Dr.Spivak” because at that moment he really thought Dr.Spivak was going to give Kevin a new body, but it was just that Kevin needed to have something to hope on to keep going with his lifes. Instead what helps him get over his anger is really that he realizes that he had a really good friend and even for a short time doesn’t really matter because some people even don’t have a very special friend like Freak.
3. In my opinion the quote of Loretta means that you have so many good things you just don’t see them.
4. I really like the book because it teaches you 1 important thing. Wich is that you need to live your life at the fullest because you only live ones and you usually don’t see how lucky you are.

ReplyDelete1 The real purposes of the empty book was to give max some thing to do and to share there adventures the good and bad ones.
2 max is angry with gwen and grim and gram because they said oh poor gwen when he thinks that they should feel bad for kevin instead. the thing that helps max with his anger is laying under the bed in the down under pretending that freak is still alive.
3 when Loretta said "nothing is a drag kid think a bout it" i think that she meant that when he had to go back to school he thought that it was a drag with out freak to be with him.
4 my thoughts about this book were that at the ending it was sad because it had a realistic ending instead of a fictional ending. I liked this book because it was full of adventures but not like freak adventure but real adventures thats one of the many reasons that i did like this book for example one of the adventures was saving the purse or being kid napped with freak the mighty you never know.

ReplyDelete1. Freak gives Max the empty book because Freak wants Max to write down all of the fun they have had on their “quests” so other people can understand them and also so that he can have the memories for all the years to come. The real purpose of the empty book is to show that Freak has faith in Max and believes that he can write even though he really cannot at that moment.
2. Max is angry at himself and at his dad after Freak dies because he feels he has messed up with Freak and he has to get all of his anger out so he blames it on his dad. What helps Max get over his anger is feeling bad for himself.
3. When Loretta Lynn says, "Nothing is a drag, kid. Think about it." In my opinion that means that nothing is terribly bad in life so just enjoy what is happening in the present time.
4. Now that the book is finished in my opinion the book was very well written because the suspense level was so high that me and my fellow classmates were sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for the next thing to happen. Also all the information that was neatly put in fit so nicely together like a puzzle at the end. I enjoyed the book very much because it was the type of reading I love to read so it interested me.

ReplyDelete1. Kevin gives max the empty book so he can write down they’re adventures and so max will not forget the times when Kevin was alive
2. He is angry with Dr. Spivak because he thought she could save Kevin and give him a bionic body so he would not die because that’s what Kevin told him
3. The quote Loretta Lee said “nothing is a drag kid think about it” means that you shouldn’t get caught up on something that already happened like “seize the day”
4. Now that the book is done I liked Freak the mighty It was very suspenseful like at the end of chapter 15 it also had great one of a kind characters like freak or max

ReplyDelete1. Kevin gives Max the empty book so that Max can write down all of their adventures and time together. The real purpose of the empty book is so that Max and Kevin can teach other kids about what a real friendship is and that you should try to live life the fullest you can.
2.Max is angry with Kevin because he was lying to him the whole time about getting a "new" body. What helps him get over his anger is what Loretta Lee says to him on page 160. ( the last page.)
3. The quote "Nothing is a drag, kid. Think about." means everything happens for a reason and you just have to live life the fullest. Even if that means you only have 13 years or so. Just have fun and spend it the way you want to spend it instead of always worrying and being depressed.
4. My thoughts about the book are that in my opinion it was and okay read but it was too sad and a bit scary at times. I liked the book because it was something way different from what I would normally read. So from now on I will read more of that kind of.

ReplyDelete1. Kevin gives Max the empty book so Max can write down the story of their friendship and their adventures. In my opinion the real purpose of the book was so that Max could remember Kevin even when Kevin had passed away.
2. In my opinion Max is mad at himself for not knowing that Kevin was going to die or that Max wasn't there when Kevin died. What helps him get over his anger is Max knows that Kevin would not have wanted Max to be depressed but to live life to the fullest like Kevin did.
3. The quote teaches Max to not do nothing with his life as he did before, but to live life to the fullest it can be. Loretta inspired Max to write the story Freak The Mighty in the empty book.
4. One of my thoughts is that Kevin told Max that He was going to get a new body because Kevin didn't want to change their friendship and also to take Kevin's mind of the fact that he was going to have a short life. I absolutely loved this book because of the plot and the deeper meaning of the book. I wish we could read it again!

ReplyDelete1. Freak gives Max the book because he knows that his life will not be long so he wants to know that their adventures get written down and not forgotten. Also he wants Max to push himself to achieve goals like wanting to write, so writing their adventures will help him achieve that goal. They both know that Max can write. Lastly he wants to make sure that Max doesn’t give up in life and school just because Freak died.
2. When he realizes that Freak dies, Max is angry with the nurses in the hospital because they are not even answering his questions. They are trying to give him a hug which reminds Max of when he was in daycare and people kept trying to give him fake hugs. Later he is somewhat angry with doctor Spivak because he thinks she lied to Freak about getting a robotic body when really Freak just made that up to have something to hope for. He gets over his anger by talking to doctor Spivak calmly and telling her of when Freak told Max that he was getting a robotic body.
3. When Loretta says “nothing is a drag, kid,” She inspires Max to not give up and to write the book. It inspires Max because if you do nothing, your life is basically pointless and that is not what Freak would want Max to do. Freak changed Max and just because Freak died, that is no reason to give up. You should live your life to the fullest like Freak did.
4. My thoughts about the book are that I am happy that not everything turned out right, not that Freak dying was good, but I like when books are balanced. In my opinion the book was amazing because the characters were real and the book was balanced. Also, it was funny and suspenseful.

2. When Max realizes Kevin is dead he is mad at Dr. Spivak because Max thinks that Dr. Spivak lied to Kevin about the bionic body just so Kevin wouldn’t be scared or nervous and wait to die. That’s what she did do, though, she said that when he was seven because she didn’t think he was old enough to handle the truth. Max gets over his anger when Loretta Lee says, "Nothing is a drag, kid, think about it.” On page 160.
3. The quote from Loretta Lee means that Max still has his life so he should live it instead of worrying about somebody else’s especially since that doesn’t exist anymore.
4. One of my thoughts about Freak the Mighty is it’s the best book I have ever read. I loved it except I don’t like how the book just ends on an un-happy situation and nothing “good” happens after that. That shows that there’s not always a most happy ending.

ReplyDelete1. Freak gives max the empty book because freak was too weak and on page 157 it says that "Kevin new that he wasnt going to have a very short life" and he didn't think that he was going to make it and he couldn't write the book himself.
2. Max was angry Dr.Spivlk because she said that freak would be the first bionically improved human and instead he died. But that was really not the truth, but it was something that Max would hope for, even though Max knew it wasn't true.
3. I means that doing nothing is a drag. then, max decided to do something and that something was to write the book the freak told max to write.
4.I like the book evan thogh it was sad it had a good meaning to it for example in the middle of the book Max and Freak worked together to run away from blade and his group.

ReplyDelete1) In my opinion, the “real” reason Freak gave Max the empty book was for Max to maybe do something other than “do nothing”, and so Max could believe in himself by writing a whole book. That is because Max knows that he will not be around forever to help Max believe in himself. So, he is helping him try to show him his true abilities by writing a whole book, because Max thinks he is dumb and is a butthead.
2) In my opinion, Max is mad at Dr. Spivak, because she did not tell him about what happened to Freak. Also, he thought that she just killed him. For example, when Max got the hospital, the nurses were all nervous, and they were saying, “Oh dear, oh dear.” Then, I think he found out that Freak died. He had no idea how, so he thought it was Dr. Spivak’s fault.
3) In my opinion, “Nothing is a drag, kid. Think about it.” means live life to the fullest. That is because you only get one life, and you get what you get. You don’t get to pick the dream life that you always want. You have to make the best out of your only life.
4) In my opinion, I liked the book Freak the Mighty, because the plot was interesting, and the book taught many lessons. For example, it taught that you should always live life to the fullest.

ReplyDelete1. The real reason Freak gives Max the empty book is because he knows he is going to die, and wants Max to keep writing, and he doesn’t want him to be a lonely person again. He thinks it will remind Max of when they were together, and how he helped Max find his lost brain. The last reason is to write with his imagination, which is why he says to write about their quests, and why he says for Max to do it, and not him.
2. Max gets mad at Dr. Spivak because when she said that they might be able to make Freak better, Max believed every word of it, and thought it was only time that was separating them. When Freak ended up dying, Max’s world spiraled out of control because Freak was a part of him when they were “Freak the Mighty.” All his emotions rushed out of him, and he chose to blame it on her. He thought they would give him the bionic body, and when he mentions this to her, she is bewildered. When she understands what the bionic thing is about, she says it is not real, and Max takes that as her saying Freak is a liar. Max doesn’t want to hear this and is depressed and angry so he just loses control. What helped him get back in control was spending time alone, and going back to a normal life. But the thing that made the biggest difference was when Loretta Lee said “Nothing is a drag, kid. Think about it,” it inspires Max to write in the book and make the most of what he has left, and what he had.
3. I think that what Loretta said, “Nothing is a drag, kid. Think about it,” means that doing nothing doesn’t get you anywhere, and you should do something productive. If he is sad about Freak, instead of skulking, he should find a new friend, or act like Freak was still alive and playing with you. This saying inspires Max to write in the book Freak gave him, because it is something to remember Freak with, and Max promised to write in it for Freak.
4. I liked this book because it dealt with a lot of different problems, solutions, and feelings. At the beginning of the book, you feel sorry for Max because he is teased, not popular, and doesn’t have a social life. You feel kind of down yourself like you are living his life. It also has mystery because of him, but you don’t know who he is or what he did and you want to know. In the middle of the book, you have a happy friendship where two people with opposite disabilities, become best friends, and have the best friendship you can think of. You feel joyful, until you hear that “Killer Kane” is going on parole, and you start to feel anxiety and concern. When he captures Max, you are on the edge of your seat waiting to know what dreadful thing he will do next, and also in the back of your mind, wondering if maybe he was innocent. Then he starts to choke Loretta, and you start to feel sad and nervous, and fully take in what happened to the mother, and feel devastated. You start to get excited like a happy ending when Freak rescues Max and Loretta, and puts “Killer Kane” in jail. The very ending caught me off guard because I was expecting a happy ending like most of the books I read, instead I got a character (who felt like more than that while reading) died (Freak) , and Max’s life crumpled up into his old ball that he started in. After all that they had been through, what they accomplished, what they hoped to do, and all the “magic” involved in them, was gone. I found this very depressing, but also a very good finish to a very good book.
